What better way to spend Black Friday than test driving this absolute beauty of a car! Thanks to Prentice MINI Portadown who handed over the keys for the day to let me see what all the hype was about.
This is the Brand New MINI GT 1499, the latest limited edition to be released by MINI, and is an ode to the classic 1275 GT
As the name suggests only 1,499 of these cars will be made and they start from £16,990. Although based on the MINI One, the 1499 GT has an AMAZING spec including the 17″ Track Spoke Black Aloys, JCW body kit and JCW spoiler complimented by the gold graphics along the side. It really is a stunning car.
This new shape MINI (F56) is definitely more Maxi than Mini, however, it does still have the characteristics and features you would expect and whilst I prefer the older shape ( I’m biased) its started to grow on me.
As soon as I stepped inside I was blown away by the interior, the 1499 GT interior has been given the JCW treatment with the previously exclusive John Cooper Works seats, JCW steering wheel and Piano black trim. In the centre, the visual boost with Mini connected is a great system similar to the BMW iDrive so is super easy to navigate and has quirky graphics. The interior of the new MINI is hard to fault, it well laid out and has a real premium feel, the anthracite headliner, soft plastics and Mood lighting all add to the feeling of luxury.
Compared to my MINI, The 1499 felt fantastic to drive, you still get that go-kart feel but without the rattles and bumps. for a MINI based on a One, the car had great power and would have no problem overtaking, I honestly loved everything about it and I didn’t think I’d ever come round to the F56!
The MINI is all about making a fashion statement, however, it’s actually really practical with plenty of rear seat room, loads of technology and great finance deals.
